The wellness landscape
The global fitness industry is worth almost 97 billion, more than 37x that of the weight loss industry. There are over 87 million fitness app users up, 25 million from 2018 in just the last 4 years alone. WW has made a name for themselves industry leading diet plan, but could they be doing more to capitalize on other aspects of the wellness journey?

Problem
WW is already a leader and household name in the diet and nutrition space. Are they leaving money on the table when it comes to fitness as part of the overall wellness journey?
Current Approach
WW’s current approach to wellness emphasizes food over fitness 🥗 > 💪
There is an assumption that when starting a weight loss journey, food always comes first. If you look at the way the app is designed today, activity is treated as supplementary to the food experience, sometimes feeling like a bit of an afterthought.
Members expect workouts as part of their WW membership.
WW has relied heavily on connected devices and partnerships with established fitness brands to bolster their core activity offering. This signals to members that in order to start their fitness journey, they have to look outside of WW to find engaging fitness tools and content.
When they removed partners Aaptive and FitOn from the app, they received many negative reviews from members who missed this content and sought out competitors such as Peloton to supplement the WW program.
Opportunity
There are already 86+ million fitness app users who are focused on activity as a key part of their wellness journey.
What if we could create a name for Weight Watchers in the fitness space, without the need to rely on external partnerships?
Sketching & Wireframing
Due to the time constraints of the Hackathon, I started with a few wires to map out the functionality of the core screens, then quickly moved into fidelity designs in order to begin handing screens off to engineering.
Final Product
Your guided coach for all things fitness.
A stand alone WW Coach led fitness app, aiming to drive a new revenue stream by targeting a new fitness minded audience.
It works by using your devices camera to track your body motions as you complete exercises. Then much like a personal trainer would, gives you real-time feedback to help improve your form and ensure you’re getting the most out of every workout.
Final Screens
High-fidelity designs
Outcome
Leadership loved how we pushed the boundaries on tech as well as thought through the entire lifecycle of the product which targeted a new segment.
